The goal of this trusted text is to introduce you to clinical medicine by reviewing the pathophysiologic basis of 120 diseases (and associated signs and symptoms) commonly encountered in medical practice. The authors, all experts in their respective fields, have provided a concise review of relevant normal structure and function of each body system, followed by a description of the pathophysiologic mechanisms that underlie several common diseases related to that system.

Each chapter of Pathophysiology of Disease concludes with a collection of case studies and questions designed to test your understanding of the pathophysiology of each clinical entity discussed. These case studies allow you to apply your knowledge to specific clinical situations. Detailed answers to each case study question are provided at the end of the book. This unique interweaving of physiological and pathological concepts will put you on the path toward thinking about signs and symptoms in terms of their pathophysiologic basis, giving you an understanding of the "why" behind illness and treatment.

I think this book has been originally written for professional medical practitioners. However the book also provides a layman like me with valuable medical info concerning various ailments and diseases Reading of the book sometimes reminds me of need to look up a medical dictionary like Dorland's for some technical words but following such check-up I could grasp the content. I'd like to point out that an interesting thing aout the book is forward-positioning of Chapter 2 handling of Genetic Disease in the book composition and that the Chap 2 is followed by the section on Immune system, infectious disease and so on. I found this arrangement of chapters very interesting and very informative. Currently I'm in the middle of reading the book authored by Dr. Peter D'Adamo who is expert on blood group study. By rcross-eferring between two books, your understanding of pathophysiology will be further enhanced.,

PROVIDES GOOD REVIEW OF PATHOPHYSIOLOGY WHICH IS OFTEN NOT EMPHASISED IN EITHER THE PHYSIOLOGY OR PATHOLOGY BOOKS. WILL WRITE MORE ONCE I HAVE READ THE BOOK IN ITS ENTIRETY.
