I was studying for my surgery SHELF exam and heard this was a good resource. I read some reviews and there were a lot of people complaining about terrible errors made throughout the book. Well, I decided to purchase it anyway and see what all the buzz was about.By Phillip
In general, the critics have been correct - there are a lot of errors made throughout the book. But they are stupid errors and easily noticed to be incorrect. For instance, there are 4-5 review questions at the end of every chapter. Well, in the answer section to these review questions, there are LOTS of mistakes - the answer description will say that the answer is D when the answer is definitely NOT D. The description will go on to explain why answer A is correct thus completely contradicting itself. And these types of errors are made over and over - just about every 3rd chapter or so has a review question that has an error similar to this one. So, yes it has a ton stupid (and unbelievable) errors, but I don't think they take away from the book or hinder your studying.
Even though there are errors throughout, I would still recommend this book. In fact, I wish I had started reading this book earlier in my rotation because it has tons of info that I was pimped on throughout the rotation.
I liked the book, the examples were great. However, it just didnt have the details I wanted/needed. For example, it'd say "treat "x" with antibiotics"....my question was, WHICH antibiotics? I just needed more information, but overall it was a useful book.By A. Szweda
