However, rarely are they trained HOW to accomplish this. It is often assumed that mental toughness will automatically result from physical and tactical training. This is not always true, but mental toughness skills can be trained directly.

Warrior Mindset presents psychological techniques and training to develop Mental Toughness, the Survival Mindset and a hardened focus. The goal is to integrate the psychological with physical and tactical training to add a dimension that is often overlooked, but necessary to achieve maximal performance excellence. If you only talk about mental toughness but don’t actively train it, you haven’t developed the complete warrior. Well as you may have already guessed from the title of this review that, I consider this book to be the third installment in the outstanding trilogy, which includes; On Killing: The Psychological Cost of Learning to Kill in War and Society and On Combat, The Psychology and Physiology of Deadly Conflict in War and in Peace which focus on the psychology of killing in combat and/or self-defense, which amounts to pretty much the same thing although usually in much different settings and circumstances. I guess one could also make the argument that killing during wartime is radically different than in self-defense, but that is an argument best left for another time and forum. I highly recommend that you also purchase and study these two previous volumes along with this one.

When I first started reading this book, I was reminded of a scene from the movie, The Shootist, starring John Wayne and Ron Howard. In this particular scene, Howard asks Wayne (who is playing a very proficient gunfighter who is elderly and dying of cancer) how he had fought so many gun battles over the years against such a wide range of opponents and come out the winner in every one of them. Wayne replies by telling Howard that it wasn't a matter of being the fastest with a gun, or even the best shot, the major factor was being "WILLING TO KILL" another human being without forethought or hesitation.
