This book does a great job explaining the basic contents of genetics. I use it for my sophomore college genetics course and although my professor does not generally teach from it (he uses his own lectures) I have had no problem understanding the book on my own. The kindle [print replica] edition is great as it saves you money and is ultraportable. Make sure you try a sample if you want to check it out before you buy.

This is a crap textbook. It over simplifies concepts in a terrible and confusing way. Seriously don't buy this book, or if you need it for a class buy a supplemental book to go with it. One of the worst textbooks I've ever come across. It mentions things briefly and tries to sum it up in the early chapters, but doesn't go into detail until later in the book. The index isn't complete, so even if a word is bolded you may not find a definition for it unless you root through the textbook and find it. UGH. SO BAD.
