From the Author
Weight loss surgery is not a single event; it is a lifelong process. Most patients struggle for years with obesity and turn to weight loss surgery only after many unsuccessful diets. For many, the surgery is another chance at life. It does not end when you leave the operating room or when your surgery wounds have healed. It lasts beyond the first year and continues past goal weight. It is a lifelong journey.
Each day leading up to and following weight loss surgery is part of that journey. You focus on protein, measure each bite, chew slowly, and drink plenty of water. You read nutrition labels, go for walks or to the gym, and avoid high-fat, high-sugar foods. You weigh yourself, try on new clothes, and take your vitamin and mineral supplements.
You need a lot of support as a weight loss surgery patient, and you need to know what to expect. Helping patients prepare for and recover from weight loss surgery was the inspiration for our first three books:
After we published the Big Books on weight loss surgery (WLS), many readers asked us about a book targeted toward WLS veterans. They wanted more about the how-to of living after WLS, and little tips that can improve daily life. We listened to readers who needed help making the daily grind a little easier.
This book delivers. It has sections on meal plans, food groups, goal setting, exercise programs, and support systems. It talks about holidays, staying motivated, coping with setbacks and managing challenging family and friends. And, of course, there are recipes.
We asked BariatricPal.com members what they wanted to see in this book, and the most common answer by far was "recipes!" High-protein recipes, dessert recipes, snack recipes, family friendly recipes, and party recipes. They are all in here, and many of them have easy variations to help you keep your diet interesting. Any reference in blue in this book is one that's included in the recipe section at the back of the book.
We sincerely hope you enjoy this book and find it a valuable companion as you lose weight andget healthier.
To your health!

Comment Well written and very informative. The authors don’t assume that you know everything already, but they don’t talk down to you, either. Some of the information is what I could get from my surgeon, but my surgeon doesn’t always have enough time to talk to me. This book goes beyond the surgery itself to discuss diet, exercise, mental strength and the various other factors that contribute to the long term success of weight loss surgery.

Comment I got gastric bypass a month ago and am down 15 pounds already! I’m getting back to solid foods and have been looking around everywhere for food ideas. This book lets you know what you can and can’t eat. It helps you plan meals, and has several pages of recipes. I know I’ll be using it a lot.
