About the Author

Max Blythe spent half a career in healthcare-related teaching and research. For twenty five years he was a member of the Faculty of Clinical Medicine at Oxford. While Reader in Clinical Sciences at Oxford Brookes University he co-authored a first pioneering monograph on Muscle Sounds in clinical research, and earlier, at Oxford Polytechnic, helped found Oxford's first degree courses in nursing and midwifery. He began his teaching as a master at Charterhouse. He is the biographer or Archie Cochrane and is currently preparing a biography of eminent 20th century gynaecologist Dame Josephine Barnes.
